For the second summer in a row, MCI is offering high school students a research-focused internship throughout the month of August. Over the course of four weeks, the interns will gain insight into all of MCI’s research areas in technology and life sciences. For each research area, the students will spend two days working on practical tasks that reflect MCI’s research focus. On the remaining days, they go on field trips to MCI’s corporate partners and learn a variety of additional skills.
The diverse tasks are consistently relevant to real-world applications and at the cutting edge of technology. In the field of Natural Sciences & Environmental Technologies, topics include microbiology, food technology, energy engineering, water purification, and sustainability assessment. In the Digital Technologies & Innovation track, interns work on projects related to robotics, 3D printing, programming, AI image recognition, and digital twins.
The “Internship of a Lifetime” program is extremely popular, as it offers a wide range of activities and enables young people to gain a wealth of experience in a short period of time—experience that can certainly help point them in the direction of future career interests. A total of 33 students from 13 Tyrolean schools are participating in the internship this year. The program is open to all types of upper-secondary schools, bringing together students from AHS, HAK, HTL, and vocational schools from Landeck to St. Johann.
The students spend four weeks together intensively exploring new subject matter, during which new friendships naturally form. To give parents and teachers from the respective schools a glimpse into the program, a get-together and an information evening are held halfway through the internship in a relaxed, summery atmosphere.
As things stand now, another internship in the same format is planned for 2027. We recommend that anyone interested apply for a spot early, as space is limited.
