Insights into Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH and the changes, challenges and trends within the energy sector

This spring semester's first guest lecture of the department of Industrial Engineering & Management was held in the beginning of March with the exciting topic "Electricity grids in transition and opportunities within the energy sector". Joining us for the event were Christina Ipfelkofer, Project Manager Trends & Technologies, and Dr. Christian Hurm, Head of Trends & Technologies, from Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH. During the lecture, they gave our students a comprehensive insight into the energy transition and an overview of how complex the interrelationships actually are. They used examples to explain potential consequences if the climate balance continuously gets worse. Furthermore, they discussed some positive developments, which still need to be further expanded worldwide.

About Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH

The company Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH count over 3,600 employees to their company, about 70% of them are employed in Germany. The headquartera are in Regensburg, the company MR is not only active worldwide, they are also the world market leader in the switching of transformers. In the now 150 years of the company’s history, the family business has made its mark in the field of power engineering. Above all, they became known for the on-load tap-changer, which is still being built today as it was 70 years ago. About 90% of the production is in Germany. The majority of sales is outside of Germany due to the high export numbers. Other generations of the on-load tap-changer have been developed and manufactured as well, but the one model by which they became known has prevailed over time.

The company operates in a very consistent industry. Long-term cooperation with customers is also very important to MR, with some they have worked for 30 years. An important USP for the company MR are the worldwide located service points, which have spare parts. In case of problems and malfunctions, those service points ensure a fast adjustment. An important area within the company MR is, among other things, to deal intensively with detailed research on trends as well as to create environmental analyses.

Thank you to Christina Ipfelkofer and Dr. Christian Hurm for the exciting lecture.
