The City

Jyväskylä is located in Central Finland, 270 kilometers north of Helsinki, near the lakes Päijänne and Keitele. The site of many education-related firsts in Finland, Jyväskylä is known as a city of schools, the Athens of Finland, and is also famous for its many buildings designed by Alvar Aalto and for hosting Neste Oil Rally Finland, which is part of the World Rally Championship. The city is home of the annual Jyväskylä Arts Festival. Jyväskylä has a population of around 130,000 people.

The University

The University of Jyväskylä has its origins in the first Finnish-speaking teacher training college, founded in 1863. It is ranked as the second largest university in Finland.
The faculties and departments are mainly located on three campuses: the Main Campus area in the city center as well as Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne Campuses on opposite shores of Lake Jyväsjärvi, united by a bridge, some 10 minutes walk from the Main Campus area.
MCI students usually find accommodation in one of the several student dormitories of Jyväskylä.
