The University of California, Berkeley is a public research university. Berkeley is among the most selective public universities in the United States. Berkeley faculty, alumni, and researchers have won 114 Nobel laureates (including 35 alumni Nobel laureates).
The university is organized into 14 colleges and schools, which, in turn, comprise 180 departments and 80 interdisciplinary units offering over 350 degree programs. The Berkeley campus encompasses approximately 499 ha.
