From May 1, 2026, the majority of current MCI degrees can be recognized in Italy through a grade conversion agreement (“Notenwechsel”).
What is the Grade Conversion Agreement?
It is a bilateral agreement between Austria and Italy that provides a simplified procedure for the recognition of many academic degrees.

Bachelor:

- Wirtschaft & Management
- Bio- & Lebensmitteltechnologie
- Digital Business Software Engineering
- Mechatronik
- Umwelt-, Verfahrens- und Energietechnik
- Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen
Master:
- International Business & Law
- International Business & Management
- International Health & Social Management
- Soziale Arbeit, Sozialpolitik & - management
- Biotechnology
- Lebensmitteltechnologie & Ernährung
- Mechatronik
- Umwelt-, Verfahrens- & Energietechnik
- Wirtschaftingenieurwesen
Previous MCI degrees (i.e. those with a different program title) are not included.
Renegotiations of the grade conversion agreement take place every two years; during this process, new MCI degree programs may be added. For programs not yet included, the option of individual recognition (nostrification) is available. Applications must be submitted directly to a university in Italy that offers a comparable program.
