Major Medical EngineeringDemographic change, technological progress, and an increasing degree of specialization in the medical field bear an enormous challenge to society, while at the same time opening up fascinating opportunities for creative minds, innovative enterprises, and the European location for science and business. Against this backdrop, MCI establishes Medical Engineering as a new branch of study. The program will be available from fall 2016 within the scope of the bachelor degree course in Mechatronics, which has been a great success since its introduction in 2008.
The Medical Engineering branch fuses skills from machine engineering, electrical engineering, and information processing with medical areas of application within an innovative and dynamic environment. Already today the diagnosis and treatment of diseases depends on diverse technologies for support – a trend which will become increasingly manifest in the near future.
The new branch of study relies on the close cooperation between MCI and the Medical University of Innsbruck. The collaboration is to guarantee that students or graduates of the program are equipped for the direct access into this highly dynamic market, or the completion of a master’s degree course to further enable them to take responsibility in clinical professions, in research and development, the manufacturing of medical devices, or respective management positions.
