Born and bred in Umlazi, Durban, Sindi Mabaso-Koyana matriculated at Ogwini Comprehensive High School. A Chartered Accountant by training, Sindi is an, entrepreneur, corporate leader and champion for transformation who is held in high regard both in South Africa & internationally. She is the founder and Executive Chairperson of The African Women Chartered Accountants Investments Holdings , a women owned and led investment company. At AIH she drives investment sourcing, funding and investment management.
Her illustrious career has included being Managing Director of Viamax Logistics , a subsidiary of Transnet, Group Financial Director of Transnet, Executive Partner at Ernst & Young, amongst a number of key executive positions she has held. She has served as Non- Executive Director of Toyota SA, South African Airways, Armaments Corporation of South Africa , MTN Group, Spescom Ltd, South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, FIFA, Eskom , Altron Group, Adcorp Holdings, amongst others.
Sindi is a thought leader in the areas of finance, audit and risk management and corporate governance.
Sindi is highly sought after as a speaker on leadership, Africa’s economic transformation and the role of women in business. She has addressed audiences in South Africa and internationally. She is well known for her role as a champion for the advancement of women in business and corporate. She played a key role in founding AWCA (African Women Chartered Accountants) an organization formed for the development of African Women Chartered Accountants. Within AWCA she has played a vital role to bring the chartered accounting profession to young women from previously disadvantaged communities. For AWCA’s long term financial sustainability, she established AWCA Investment Holdings which she chairs.
Sindi is positive about Africa’s economic prospects and never hesitates to play the role of evangelist for entrepreneurship. She has invested in businesses in a number of sectors including mining, finance, logistics , industrials and the arts. But she maintains that the greatest investment is the one a society makes in its people.
As a widely travelled executive, Sindi always finds time to act as an ambassador for her country and she strongly believes that South Africa is one of the best countries in which to do business.
Sindi was named one of the Top 20 Most Powerful Women in Business and Public Sector in South Africa, very early in her career and was once a Finalist for The Business Woman of The Year Awards.
