Introduction with a change of perspective: Course outside the university

Date 2026-10-16

New environment, new encounters, new phase of study

The students of the new Master's class in Industrial Engineering & Management started their studies with a joint introductory seminar at the Bildungshaus St. Michael in Matrei. The aim of the external event was to network the new class with each other, promote team spirit and create an appreciative learning culture for the coming study period.

The course was characterized by a lively and open exchange. In alternating teams, the students discussed technological and social trends, developed different perspectives and then presented their results in the plenary. The regular change of group constellations not only promoted the content-related discussion, but also offered the opportunity to quickly enter into conversation with each other and get to know a variety of perspectives.

The seminar focused on forward-looking questions: How is the job profile of industrial engineers changing? What paths are opening up in modern management careers? Which skills will be particularly in demand in the future – and where do the students see themselves in the coming years? It was also reflected on which skills the participants would like to develop in a targeted manner and which personal and professional goals can realistically be pursued.

Students will take up many of these questions repeatedly in the course of their master's studies. A key goal is to anchor the ability for continuous self-reflection in the long term. Especially in a professional world characterized by change, technological development and new forms of work, it is crucial to be able to make professional and personal decisions consciously, with foresight and strategically.

The external venue offered a valuable setting for this far away from everyday university life. In this atmosphere, in addition to subject-related topics, personal expectations of the studies and possible challenges could be openly addressed - such as the compatibility of work, studies and family. The joint exchange made it clear that many students bring similar questions and concerns with them and can benefit from each other.

During the seminar, the students presented themselves as attentive, interested and committed. The positive atmosphere as well as the constructive and appreciative cooperation form an excellent basis - not only for a successful master's program, but also for a sustainable network that the participants will be happy to fall back on in the future.

The introductory seminar is part of the updated Master's curriculum and underlines the program's claim to combine professional qualifications, personal development and cooperative learning culture from the very beginning.
