The Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering Master’s program offered by MCI provides a practice-oriented engineering training as well as comprehensive expertise required for the sustainable development of already existing plants and new concepts. With complementary courses in economics and law, the program provides scientific and internationally relevant knowledge. It is available full-time in English, as well as part-time in German, with selected courses taught in English.
The main focus of the program is on the development, implementation, control, and continuous improvement of engineering processes and the application of new technologies.
Since the program is based entirely on an interdisciplinary approach, it combines process engineering with several other engineering sciences. Students also receive the opportunity to improve on their management, leadership, innovation, and legal skills. Science-based and industrial projects provide them with further skills and knowledge, while teaching them a ‘just-do-it’ philosophy. Graduates are thus enabled to solve industrial problems and to safeguard a livable future.

Applications for admission are accepted on a rolling basis. The required documents are to be submitted online. Applicants are welcome to apply for multiple programs of study, as long as a plausible rationale is given. The final decision may be taken by the end of the application procedures.

The Masters program in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering is open to graduates of relevant Bachelors programs and graduates from other recognized and relevant post-secondary educational facilities.
Applications for the English Master's program (full-time) do not require proof of language proficiency, as English skills are checked during the admission procedure. If you have already obtained language certificates, they can be submitted as part of the online application process. Please note that the English admission test cannot be replaced by a language certificate.

Written entrance exam - 20%The written entrance exam tests the general knowledge of the applicants, as well as their knowledge of Mechanical process engineering, plant and apparatus engineering, thermal process engineering and chemical process engineering as well as their knowledge of English.
Interview - 50%The interview is conducted by a commission and gives applicants the opportunity to present themselves personally, to expand on information provided in the application materials and to explain their academic and professional goals.

The Master's programme in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering offers practical engineering training with excellent career opportunities in the field of "Green Technologies". In addition to a specialisation in the core areas of process engineering, students can choose from several optional subjects and thus specialise in the desired disciplines.
The Master program Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering is a full-time or part-time degree program.
In full-time studies, lectures and seminars are held on weekdays, with blocked units allowing for an intensive immersion into individual topics.
A part-time study program is organized in such a way that students can pursue full-time employment.
The electives take place at the times indicated under “Module overview > Facts > Time model & language (subject to change).
The Double Degree Program offers students the option to – in addition to MCI’s Master’s degree – obtain a second degree from Università degli Studi di Genova. Students completing this special program acquire advanced knowledge in the field of energy and chemical engineering while gaining experience abroad. The length of studies increases from four to five semesters.

Graduates of the program are conferred the academic title of Master of Science in Engineering, in short MSc or M.Sc. This is attested by a leaving certificate, the Master diploma, the international diploma supplement, and further documents where relevant. MCI Alumni are entitled to combine their academic degree with the brand “MCI” to provide trust and orientation in an increasingly intransparent international education market. By choosing respective areas of specialization, the students of the program can deepen their interests and obtain advanced knowledge of Plant Engineering and Operations, Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
Specialization Plant Engineering
The Plant Engineering and Operations module represents one of the core areas of modern process engineering. Subjects to be discussed here are automation engineering, logistics, and plant design, with a particular focus on computer-aided design.
Specialization Chemical Engineering
Chemical Engineering is positioned at the intersection of chemistry and process engineering, thus, addressing central issues of industrial scale-up, chemical product design, advanced catalysis, and polymer chemistry.
Specialization Energy Engineering
The Energy Engineering module provides students with advanced knowledge of technologies for the efficient, safe, environmentally friendly, and economic conversion, storage, and utilization of all forms of energy.
Specialization Environmental Engineering
Environmental Engineering deals with technical procedures for the protection of the environment and the development of respective technological measures. The general focus is, thus, on water and air pollution control, residual waste treatment, and systems analyses.

One of the most essential components of MCI study programs is their international orientation. This is reflected not only in the curriculum and assigned projects, but also in the backgrounds of our faculty and students. Each program also includes the opportunity for students to spend a semester abroad at one of MCI’s many partner institutions.
MCI taught me not only the professional, but also the methodological competence required to master the challenges of professional life. The part-time mode of study enabled me to successfully complete my studies, despite family and work obligations.

Yes, it is possible and even recommended that you apply before obtaining your Bachelor’s Degree certificate in order to secure one of the limited places in your desired course of study. Please include the most recent transcript of records in your application. Should your application be successful, the Bachelor’s certificate is to be submitted by the start of your studies.
Multiple applications are welcome as long as a plausible reason is provided in your cover letter. If you are admitted to two or more study programs, you are required to inform us of your final decision by the conclusion of the application procedures.
As a rule, panel interviews take place at MCI. In exceptional cases only, they can be conducted via Skype.

As part of your admission procedure, your application documents will be assessed in regards to your nationality. Scholarships are available for applicants from non-EU countries and can be applied for as part of your online application.
Students of this study program have the choice within their curriculum, but also as part of their extracurricular activities, to choose between modules, specializations, additional courses, electives, etc. Additionally, the semester abroad at one of our numerous partner universities as well as projects and final papers, enable our students to make their study program a truly unique experience.
Attendance is mandatory in all classes. If you miss 25% of a course or more, this will have an effect on your final grade.
Exemption from mandatory attendance may be granted if a valid reason is given (e.g. sickness, visit to authorities or other personal reasons). Please submit your written request including relevant proof to the department for approval.
Yes, in the full-time Master’s program, all courses are held in English. The specialization subjects, which are the same for both full-time and part-time students, are also held in English. In the third semester, Master students may spend a semester abroad at any of the partner institutions of their department. The prerequisites for this will be communicated to you in due time.
No, employment is not a mandatory prerequisite for part-time studies, but is, however, recommended as it facilitates practical insight and enables application of the studied content.
Furthermore, students are not obliged to work in a related subject during their part-time studies, but gaining valuable practical experience in relevant fields while studying is still recommended.
The choice of the organizational form to be taken is made by the students prior to the commencement of their studies. For organizational reasons, it is not possible to change this structure during your studies.
Students choose their desired specialization prior to commencing their studies. Due to the different content of the fields of specialization available, it is not possible to change specializations during studies.
Yes. In the Master’s program, the third semester is considered an international semester. This offers you the opportunity to complete a semester abroad at one of our numerous partner institutions. However, the integrated semester abroad is not mandatory; the international semester can also be spent at MCI.
Yes, working in the laboratory requires that the necessary safety guidelines and precautions be observed and that the safety instructions of the course lecturer be followed. For this reason, an obligatory safety briefing takes place at the beginning of each course, which all students are required to attend without exception. The date for the safety briefing is determined by the relevant department.
Master students have the opportunity to apply for a double degree program. The Master‘s program comprises five semesters of study, including Master’s thesis and Master’s examination. Semesters one to two are completed at MCI, while semesters three to four are spent at Università degli Studi di Genova, Italy. The fifth semester takes place either at MCI or at Università degli Studi di Genova. Upon successful completion of the double degree program, students receive the academic degrees of Master of Science in Engineering (MCI) and Laurea Magistrale of Energy Engineering (Centria University of Applied Sciences). The focus of the program is on energy engineering and chemical engineering.
