Austrian Decoration of Honor for Science and Art for the MCI’s Rector Andreas Altmann

Austria’s Minister of Science presents the MCI’s Rector with a prestigious award at a ceremony attended by leading public figures.

The Rector’s reception given last weekend in the framework of the MCI’s Alumni Weekend was attended by a number of VIPs: In addition to the many MCI graduates, students, partners and friends, Andreas Altmann also welcomed leading figures from the worlds of science, business and politics, including Austrian Minister of Science Professor Karlheinz Töchterle, President of the Tyrolean Regional Diet Dr. Herwig van Staa, and Senator Manfried Gantner as the long-serving former Rector of Innsbruck University.

Minister Töchterle had a little surprise in store for the attendees: He presented the MCI’s Rector Andreas Altmann with the Austrian Decoration of Honor for Science and Art. In a very personal laudatory speech Minister Töchterle pointed out that Management Center Innsbruck – where study was a pleasure and the academic standards had attracted numerous international awards – was inextricably linked with the name Andreas Altmann. He also said that Rector Altmann had played a major role in the successful development of Austria as a knowledge location, the Austrian system of universities of applied science, and the Tyrol as a business and university location.

The Austrian Decoration of Honor for Science and Art is one of the country’s most prestigious civil awards. It is made for services to science and/or the arts that are in the special interest of the Republic of Austria, exceptional in their importance and effects, and particularly deserving of public attention.

Statements:

Professor Bernhard Tilg, Tyrolean Minister of Science
It is a special distinction for Dr. Andreas Altmann to receive the Austrian Decoration of Honor for Science and Art for his outstanding services to Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) and the Tyrol as a university and knowledge location. For years, Rector Altmann has been responsible for the highly successful development and international standing of the MCI in teaching and research. Through his many activities and great commitment, the universities of applied science have grown in importance for the Tyrol and for the future in general.

Christine Oppitz-Plörer, Mayor of Innsbruck
The MCI is an outstanding place of learning and as such makes a significant contribution to Innsbruck’s international reputation as a business and knowledge location. The MCI success story has been largely written by Rector Andreas Altmann, and I would like to thank him personally and on behalf of the City of Innsbruck, and congratulate him on this well-deserved distinction. That makes it all the more important to implement the plans for a new MCI building on a single campus as quickly as possible so as guarantee for the future the infrastructure that is a prerequisite for the excellent standing of teaching at the MCI.
