iDM on expansion course - new projects in 2024

iDM defies the market and continues to grow

For many years, iDM has been setting new standards in the development of intelligent heat pumps. This continuous focus and the resulting technological edge have enabled the company to record constant growth despite the challenges of an increasingly difficult market environment.

Challenging environment

After years of double-digit growth rates, the European heat pump market has recently slumped. Significant declines were recorded in all markets, particularly in the fourth quarter. "This is the result of unclear communication from political decision-makers and a constantly changing subsidy policy, which is unsettling consumers," explains iDM Managing Director Hans-Jörg Hoheisel. In addition, large corporations are pushing into the European market. Despite this situation, iDM was able to further expand its market share in its core markets of Austria and Germany in the past financial year. Internationalization also got off to a successful start: the company established its own sales offices in Italy and Spain.

All in all, sales increased once again in 2023 and exceeded the EUR 200 million turnover mark for the first time. "We can therefore look back on the most successful financial year in iDM's history," says iDM Managing Director Christoph Bacher. A further 30% jump in sales is planned for 2024: "We have taken the necessary steps to achieve this. With our intelligent heat pump, we also supply the complete energy management system. Demand is increasingly moving in the direction of complete solutions and iDM is at the forefront here as a technology leader." Particularly noteworthy are the use of natural refrigerants, the inclusion of hourly electricity tariffs, the optimized use of PV systems and the use of buildings as energy storage systems.

Investing in the futureInvesting in the future
The expansion of the headquarters in Matrei i.O. was recently completed on schedule. The new 10,500 m² production hall 8 went into operation before the winter. In future, up to 40,000 heat pumps per year can be produced at the site. Together with the new high-bay warehouse, over 35 million euros were recently invested in the expansion and modernization. In future, the majority of the site can be operated energy self-sufficiently with the expanded photovoltaic system. The expansion in Spittal an der Drau as a new production center for large heat pumps is also on schedule and will double the production area by the end of the year. This will increase the iDM Group's workforce to over 1,000 employees. This year will also see the launch of a further plant in Germany.
For the iDM management, one thing is certain: "The heat pump is an important driver of the European energy transition. In order to maintain our successful course, we will continue to invest in research and development and constantly adapt our products to the needs of our customers and the requirements of the market". Due to the current high subsidies of up to 75 percent, an immediate switch makes sense in any case: "Waiting any longer will only cost money."
